Description

Tentative Details (SEE HOTEL UPDATES BELOW)

Trip Name: Bisbee & Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area

Trip Type: Overnight

When: Monday (1/12/26) & Tuesday (1/13/26)

2-day trip with overnight in Bisbee, Arizona.  From there, a short drive to Whitewater Draw to photograph Sandhill Cranes.

Arrange carpooling or drive separately.  We'll have a sign-up sheet in the club room.

Meetup / Departure Times: TBA but a 5 a.m. departure from Sun City is suggested.  Approximately 4-1/2 to 5 hours to travel to Bisbee.

Other Information (website address, etc.): Lodging in Bisbee is quaint, mostly in small boutique hotels in historical buildings.  Because of the smallness of the properties, it’s difficult to hold a block of rooms without booking the whole hotel.  The Copper Queen is one exception and has 48 rooms most of which are available on January 12th.  The Trip Advisor reviews are not great; there is no elevator and many flights of stairs.  I’ll be working with the manager sometime this week to hold a few rooms and get a group discount.  The advantage would be a central location and most of us together in one place.  Let me know if you’re interested in the Copper Queen so I’ll know how many rooms to save.  For those that don’t want to brave the stairs, I have reserved three rooms at the Jonquil Motel.  No stairs, park in front of your room.  Two rooms have one queen bed, and one has two queen beds.  Those are the last rooms for that night.  There are many hotels with suites and for a group that doesn’t mind rooming together it might be a plan.  No matter which option, room or suite and splitting the cost, it will run about $100-150 once they add tax.  When possible, go to actual hotel websites and book directly instead of third party.  Other hotel options: https://www.tripadvisor.com/LocalMaps-g31171-Bisbee-Area.html

HOTEL UPDATES:

LATEST UPDATES: To all planning to go to Bisbee and stay at Copper Queen.  Go ahead and call to make your reservations.  I've set aside eight rooms and more can be added if we have more coming.  Call the hotel direct at 520-432-2216 and say it's for the Sun City Camera Guild under Cheryl Drake's name.  Keep trying as they're had to get a hold of.  Discounts are up in the air at this time. I will be emailing the manager double checking what she told me so it's in writing. Our rooms are on the second floor which will be nice and there are no rooms on the first floor.

ORIGINAL UPDATES: It looks like many of us want to stay at the Copper queen.  They will give us a 10% discount if we're over 70 years old and another 10% if we book a block of 15 rooms.  I also have a price list of the rooms.  The $80 price is rather misleading as it's their smallest room and they have only three.
